Commercial Finance Optimization Lead

Our environment is fast-moving and commercially focused with 11 multinational entities – we are looking for someone who can help bring structure, execution strength, and innovation to support our ambitious next phase in finance.

This role is perfect for someone who loves owning high-value projects, partnering with tough but brilliant stakeholders, and driving innovation in both process and technology.

You’ll play a pivotal role in bridging finance, operations, systems, and commercial strategy — working closely with the Group Financial Manager to ensure aligned, high-impact delivery. You’ll be empowered to lead change, close financial gaps, introduce controls and structure, and embed smarter, tech-enabled ways of working. Your work will directly affect our bottom line and set the foundation for scalable, well-governed growth.

The Commercial Finance Optimization Lead will lead high-priority financial and commercial initiatives, often with minimal pre-existing structure or processes. This person will be responsible for project managing, problem-solving, and delivering impactful outcomes across finance and beyond.

The ideal candidate combines strong finance and controls expertise with commercial awareness, a resilient personality, and a passion for tech-enabled process improvement — including automation, reporting tools, AI solutions, and system migrations. You will be the driver of project delivery and process discipline in areas that historically struggle to reach completion.

Responsibilities:

Special Project Ownership

  • Take ownership of strategic and ad hoc finance-related projects from initiation to implementation.
  • Deliver projects at pace and with clarity, especially where ambiguity or complexity exists.
  • Ensure strong execution discipline without over-complicating processes.

Commercial Finance Oversight

  • Own and improve the reconciliation and tracking of buy/sell rates across operator and supplier relationships.
  • Mitigate financial leakage by aligning internal finance processes with commercial recovery efforts.
  • Embed controls and automated tracking to reduce manual interventions and margin erosion.

Control Design & Governance

  • Plan, design, walkthrough, test, and document financial controls aligned with governance best practices.
  • Identify control gaps or financial risks and implement preventative solutions.
  • Ensure governance and accountability are embedded into business-as-usual operations.

Project Management & Execution

  • Project manage cross-functional initiatives with minimal guidance, driving tasks to closure.
  • Prioritize pragmatism, delivery, and simplicity — especially in complex stakeholder environments.
  • Report on progress, risks, and milestones clearly and regularly.

Technology & Systems Transformation

  • Proactively identify opportunities for automation, AI integration, and technology solutions to improve finance operations.
  • Drive or support system migrations and new tool adoption to improve efficiency, reporting, and financial controls.
  • Collaborate with tech, BI, and data teams to implement solutions that are scalable and future-fit.

Business Partnership & Influence

  • Work closely with stakeholders across commercial, operations, and tech functions.
  • Navigate difficult personalities and push for project momentum through strong interpersonal influence.
  • Communicate clearly and constructively at all levels, including senior leadership.

Finance Team Support & BAU Coverage

  • Provide general support to the wider finance team as needed, including cover during peak periods, absences, or high-priority BAU activity.
  • Be ready to step into core finance processes to ensure continuity and stability.
  • Possess a working knowledge of key finance areas such as accruals, budgets, audit processes, and management accounts preparation.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

Core Capabilities

  • Strong financial controls background, including process design, walkthroughs, and testing.
  • Demonstrated experience leading finance-related projects end-to-end in dynamic environments.
  • Solid grounding in core finance operations — able to support business-as-usual activity such as accruals, budgeting, audit processes, and management reporting when required.
  • Ability to operate independently, with high energy and urgency.

Commercial & Technical Competence

  • Familiarity with commercial finance, buy/sell rate models, and cost recovery mechanics.
  • Solid grasp of governance, audit-readiness, and internal control frameworks.
  • Experience with system migrations, tool rollouts, or major system/process transitions.
  • Tech-forward mindset — with proven ability to scope or deliver automations, Power BI dashboards, or AI-driven solutions.

Tools & Systems

  • Power BI or equivalent reporting/analytics platforms.
  • Comfortable working across ERP/finance systems, spreadsheets, and automation tools.
  • Advantageous: experience with finance systems within the gaming or aggregator sectors.

Personal Attributes

  • High energy, proactive, and unafraid to take initiative.
  • Thrives in ambiguity and can move things forward with little guidance.
  • Resilient and influential, especially with challenging stakeholders.
  • Process-oriented but execution-focused.
  • Clear communicator who simplifies complexity.

Performance Measures:

  • Timely, successful delivery of critical finance and control-related projects.
  • Measurable improvements in financial recovery, process efficiency, and controls.
  • Successful rollout of tools or system changes.
  • Enhanced governance and compliance maturity across the business.
